DB Shodipo decommits from WIU

Oswego (Ill.) senior defensive back recruit Josh Shodipo (6-foot-0, 185 pounds) decided to back out of his earlier verbal commitment to Western Illinois University. Shodipo discusses his decision and what's next in this update.

"I decided to decommit from Western Illinois " Shodipo said. "I still like the school and the program very much, but I just felt like I might have rushed my decision and I want to explore all of my options."

So which schools have contacted Shodipo lately?

"I've been in touch with the coaches from Toledo, NIU, Illinois, Illinois State and Northern Iowa. The coaches have just said they want me to keep sending them my video and to also remain in touch with them."

Shodipo is also hoping to get out to visit a few schools soon.

"I've been invited to go see some games in person from a lot of the same schools who've been in touch. I just need to sort out my schedule and set some dates up. The state playoffs will be coming up in a few weeks and that makes it hard to plan anything out since you don't know the schedule until the week before you play."

Shodipo is also excited about the Panthers (5-1) season so far this fall.

"The season has been going pretty well. We had an early loss but we've been playing pretty well ever since. I started off a little slow but I've been getting better each week. I have five interceptions in six weeks and I feel like I'm back on track."

Josh Shodipo has scholarship offers from Indiana State, South Dakota State and Western Illinois.
