Northwestern and head coach Pat Fitzgerald just added it's second Class of 2018 in-state verbal commitment today in the Class of 2018.
Lincoln-Way East four star ranked defensive end Devin O'Rourke (6-foot-6, 230 pounds) has decided to end his recruiting process and just gave the Wildcats his verbal commitment.
"When I visited Northwestern last weekend it really sold me," according to O'Rourke. "Between seeing what a degree from Northwestern can do for you after graduation to the family feel within the football program, I was sold so I committed."
O'Rourke also pointed towards a 45 minute long one on one talk with Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald last weekend that sealed the deal.
"I had a one on one talk with Coach (Pat Fitzgerald) Fitz for about 45 minutes and after that I was sold on Northwestern. I just couldn't find a school that's going to be a better fit for me and after that talk I totally bought into the program at Northwestern. I never really had a time frame to be honest. I just felt all along that whenever I was 100 percent ready to commit I would commit. I'm ready to commit so I called up the Northwestern coaches and gave them my verbal commitment. I didn't see any need to drag it out."
O'Rourke is also thrilled to have his decision completed.
"I'm very happy and very relieved. The process is very exciting at first but then it gets more complicated and harder to just talk to all of the coaches. I can just focus on my senior year and my senior season and focus on helping my team win a state title."
O'Rourke joins New Trier three star ranked tight end Brian Kaiser (6-foot-7, 220 pounds) in giving the Wildcats a verbal commitment today in the Class of 2018. O'Rourke is now the sixth known overall verbal commitment for Northwestern and is also the fourth known in-state pledge. O'Rourke and Kaiser joins Dunlap three star ranked tight end Charlie Mangieri and Libertyville three star ranked offensive linemen Charlie Schmidt in the Northwestern 2018 recruiting class.
Devin O'Rourke is verbally committed to Northwestern.
