DT Pirkle helps East stay the course

Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East two star ranked defensive tackle prospect D.J. Pirkle (6-foot-0, 287 pounds) knew that the Griffins had a battle on it's hands in beating cross-town and district rival Lincoln-Way Central 17-15 in front of over 7,000 fans in New Lenox, Illinois last Friday night. Pirkle talks about his latest recruiting news in this update.
"It was everything we thought that the Central game was going to be," Pirkle said. "It was a really close game, too close for my liking to be honest. In the end we still we're able to post the W and in the end that's all that really matters. Central came out and played really well from the start, and you have to give the credit. We know that with the playoff system we'll most likely get to play them again down the road. Right now I'm just glad to get the win and now we need to focus on Sandburg this Friday."

Pirkle has also continued to draw plenty of recruiting interest this fall.
"Indiana has started to show me more recruiting interest over the last few weeks. I'm still talking on a regular basis with the schools that have offered me like Hawaii, Wyoming, Eastern Illinois and Illinois State. UConn, Vanderbilt, Western Michigan and a few other schools have been interested and they have been calling me regularly."
Pirkle has also finished sending out his early senior tape this week.
"Several schools have been requesting my early senior tape, so over last week and this week we've sent those tapes out. Basically I sent out about 50 separate tapes to several schools, and the majority of schools made those tape requests. I'm hoping that the colleges will like what they see on my senior tape."
Pirkle is also looking harder at his college options this fall.
"I'm really thinking about setting up a few official visits for after the season. I'm still very interested in Hawaii and I'm planning to take an official visit there. I'm hoping to get some feedback on my senior tape from some schools and I'll look at everything and maybe set some additional visits from there."
In the meantime, Pirkle and the Griffins have a state title to defend.
"This is the best time of the year. The weather is nice and cool and it just feels like it's football season out there. It's been a really good year so far and I'm really enjoying my senior season so far. Right now with the playoffs just a few weeks away it's an exciting time of the year."
