Evans is on board

Crystal Lake (Ill.) Prairie Ridge senior three star ranked offensive guard prospect Shane Evans (6-foot-4, 296 pounds) just gave Northern Illinois University his verbal commitment. Evans talks about his decision here.

Evans talked about why he gave the nearby NIU Huskies his verbal commitment.
"It was just an important thing to me to go to a good program. NIU is a good program and they also have a great atmosphere which I was impressed with everything they have to offer. I also loved the family atmosphere at NIU and that was another big factor for me."
So who else was Evans considering?
"I was also considering Toledo pretty hard."
Evans will be playing for an NIU Huskies program that is just minutes away from his home. Was distance ever a factor in his final choice?
"Distance was never really a factor for me. The fact that I'm close to home means a lot to me. I'm also going to enroll in January and be able to take part in spring ball."
Evans is the fourth known in-state verbal commitment for the NIU Huskies Class of 2014. Evans joins Proviso West tight end Denzel Tolliver, Bishop McNamara LB Robbie Odeneal Jr. and and Wheaton South quarterback Ryan Graham.
