Flowers taking Prep School route

Carol Stream (Ill.) Glenbard North defensive back recruit Josh Flowers (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) had FCS level scholarship offers but instead decided to forgo those offers and take the Prep School route next season.

"I'm going to Gulf Coast Prep Sports Academy next season," Flowers said. "My goal has always ben to play in college at the highest level and this move allows me to reclassify as a 2019 graduate."

Flowers , who had offers from Illinois State, Southeast Missouri State, South Dakota State and Murray State discussed his decision.

"I've been considering going the prep school route for over a year now. I did a lot of research and I also talked to a lot of different coaches. I was able to find a good situation and make a good connection with the coaches at Gulf Coast Prep down in Alabama. They have had a lot of success with it's program over the past few years and I feel that they can help me get better. I'm not giving up on myself to play at the highest level in college and this is the best route for me without losing any eligibility. Academically I'm totally fine and a full qualifier."

Flowers is hoping that the schools who showed recruiting interest in him this past year are already planning to remain in contact with him for the Class of 2019.

"I've talked to all of the schools who offered me. They all said that they will definitely stay in touch and that they would still be interested in me as a Class of 2019 recruit. I'm also excited to get to keep working on my game and keep working towards my goal."

Flowers ism also excited to have one of his teammates heading with him next fall.

"Jabari Fitzpatrick is also going down to Gulf Coast Prep so it will be good to have a familiar face with me in the fall."
