Hawn "It was always NIU"

St. Charles (Ill.) North junior three star ranked offensive tackle recruit Isaac Hawn (6-foot-6, 285 pounds) decoded to end his recruiting process today and gave Northern Illinois University and head coach Rod Carey his verbal commitment.

"It was time for me to make my decision" Hawn said. "I have been thinking about committing to NIU for awhile now and they have been just standing out for me compared to everyone else. I called up the coaches at NIU and gave them my verbal commitment."

Hawn, who traveled across the Midwest and beyond since last winter making several campus unofficial visits wound up finding his perfect fit just a handful of miles down I-88 in DeKalb.

"Honestly NIU has been the team to beat for me for some time now. It was several factors about NIU that really stood out. I trust the coaches at NIU and they are just a great group who are also great people. NIU also has a great team and I'm just very excited to be a part of NIU Huskies football."

So was playing closer to home a factor in Hawn's decision?

"It was. It's great that my family and friends can see me play in college. I also was just really impressed with everything that NIU has to offer. I was able to meet with President Baker and several of the administrators along with some of the professors. NIU is so close that I lost track of how many visits I've made over the past year or so. NIU offers a great education and that was another important factor in my decision."

Did any other school come close to landing Hawn?

"I was able to visit several schools and I liked a lot of the campuses I saw in person, but they just didn't match the overall fit for me like NIU does. It was just never the same at home feeling I get at NIU when I visit. I'm just very comfortable at NIU. I just feel like I belong at NIU."

Hawn can now focus on his upcoming senior season.

"I wanted to make an early decision for some time now. I'm just looking forward to a great senior season. We have a chance to have a great year and I didn't want anything to take away from the team."

Isaac Hawn is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University.
