Komel talked about why he decided to pledge to the Chippewas this afternoon.
"I camped at Central Michigan this summer and I really liked it. I just liked the town and the facilites and overall Central Michigan is just a great school. I also have friends already on the team at CMU in Blake Serpa (Kaneland) and Jeff Perry (Morris) and they have been talking to me for months about the school. I always wanted to play in the MAC and this is my chance. I know that it's a quick decision but it's one I was ready to make. The CMU coaches made an in school visit earlire this week and said they would let me know by today whether they would offer me or not. Once they offered me this morning I knew I had to commit."
Komel, who was recruited as an interior linemen was actually close to making a final choice before seeing CMU in school earlier this week.
"I visited South Dakota last weekend and I had a great visit. I also had been staying in touch with NIU and they also still had interest in me. I was getting really close to making a decision until I saw the CMU coaches in school. They wanted me to wait until today so I waited. It was really hard calling up the coaches and telling them my decision today."
Komel is also thrilled to have his recruiting process behind him.
"I almost feel bad because I had to call a bunch of great coaches and tell them my decision. I feel that I had to make the best choice for myself and I know that's the case with CMU. I'm just thrilled and excited about my decision and I can't wait to go back for my official visit (January 17th)."
Joe Komel is verbally committed to Central Michigan.
