Mikkelson discussed why he pledged to the Illinois State Redbirds.
"I've been going to Illinois State over the past two summers and I'm just very comfortable and familiar with the school and the coaches. Illinois State is a great school with a great campus. I also really like all the coaches and they just have a lot to offer. Illinois State is close to home and I'm just excited about my decision."
Mikkelson also talked about the Redbirds recent success on the field as another key factor in his decision.
"Seeing Illinois State winning and making a deep run all the way to the National Championship game was a big factor for me. Illinois State is on the way up and they have a bright future. I also have a lot of friends who already go to Illinois State plus I know kids on the team like Bryce (Holm). It's a great situation for me at Illinois State."
Erik Mikkelson is verbally committed to Illinois State.
