NIU adds an in-state verbal

McHenry (Ill.) senior outside linebacker recruit Corey Lersch (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) attended two recent one day camps, added an NIU offer the day after his camp with the Huskies and committed to NIU. Lersch talks about his decision here.
"NIU offered me this morning (Thursday) around 9AM and I committed right on the spot," Lersch said. "I've always been a big fan of NIU and once they offered me I knew I was ready tom commit."

Lersch, who camped this summer with NIU along with Illinois talked about why he decided to end his recruiting process and pledge to the Huskies.
"I've just always have loved NIU. It's close to home, they offer a great education and they have been a winning program. I know that it's a great school plus my parents will be able to see all of my games which is also important to me. I had a good camp with NIU and they wanted to go back and watch my film to see if I showed the same speed I showed at the camp on film. Once I called them this morning they said they wanted to offer me and liked what they saw from me. it's just a great feeling."
Lersch, who played tight end for the Warriors in 2014 could see playing time on the defensive side of the football for the NIU Huskies.
"I started off the NIU camp at tight end and was doing pretty well. One of the NIU coaches said he wanted to see what I could do at linebacker so they moved me over to linebacker. The coaches all came over and watched me play linebacker and they liked what they saw from me. NIU likes me playing at linebacker but they also can see me also playing tight end. I'm completely open when it comes to a position. I'm just excited to play for NIU next year."
Corey Lersch is verbally committed to Northern Illinois University.
