O'Malley pledges to Army

Libertyville (Ill.) senior defensive tackle recruit Ryan O'Malley (6-foot-4, 255 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process and gave West Point his verbal commitment. O'Malley talks about his decision here.

"I'm just very excited about my decision," O'Malley said about his verbal commitment to Army. "I was able to make two separate unofficial visits to Army and I just feel like West Point is a great fit for me. I just love every aspect of what West Point is all about and I'm ready for the challenge."

O'Malley, who was recruited by the Black Knights as a defensive tackle talks about why he decided on Army.

"I was really sold on West Point and academy life after my two unofficial visits. The first visit I made was more football related. I was able to focus on the football side and was able to get to know the coaches and some of the players. I just felt that I connected with everyone involved with Army football. My second visit was more academic related along with learning more about academy life. I was able to stay with one of the cadets and sat in on some classes and I just learned the day to day life as a cadet. I just saw myself being at Army and being a part of the academy. After those visits I knew I was ready to be a leader, an officer and setting myself up for a chance to be successful in life."

Did O'Malley also consider other schools?

"I looked hard at some schools. Buffalo was a school I looked into pretty hard along with a few others. I just can't see myself passing up such a great opportunity at West Point. Other schools have good things to offer but I just can't pass up what Army has to offer."

O'Malley is also thrilled to have his recruiting process completed.

"It's been a long process for me, and I'm definitely glad my recruiting process is completed. My family is really excited for me and they also loved it at Army."

In the meantime, it's playoff week for O'Malley and the Libertyville Wildcats (4-4).

"We need to beat Zion-Benton (3-5) this week to get into the state playoffs next week, so basically our playoff start this week."
