Chatham (Ill.) Glenwood sophomore offensive linemen recruit William Putnam (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) made a return visit to the University of Iowa on Saturday and took in the Hawkeyes 42-3 win over Iowa State. Putnam discusses his latest visit to Iowa and much more here.
"The season is going well so far (2-1)," Putnam said. "I also got back from Iowa Saturday and I had a great time there."
Putnam, who camped at Iowa over the summer gave us his latest impressions from Iowa City.
"I camped at Iowa over the summer but this was my first visit as a recruit. I just really like the coaches at Iowa including Coach Brian Ferentz. I just like his personality and how he coaches his players. Also the game day atmosphere at Iowa was one that I hadn't felt before and it was great. The facilities at Iowa are also really nice."
Putnam came away on his Saturday visit to Iowa feeling good about where he stands with the Hawkeyes.
"Iowa hasn't offered me yet. After getting a chance to talk to the coaches on Saturday they said that I'm definitely high on their 2019 recruiting list. Iowa also said that I will be hearing more form them."
Does Putnam set any other college game day trips planned?
"I plan to go on visits soon to Purdue and Ohio State over the next coming weeks."
Until then Putnam is focused on the Titans season, which includes the annual rivalry game on Friday against Sacred Heart Griffin.
"SHG is a game that the players, coaches and the whole school and town looks forward towards every year."
So how has Putnam been playing so far this season?
"This is the first year I'm starting both ways. I have a learning curve on the defensive side of the ball because I haven't played defense since middle school. Offensively I'm getting the job done but I still have things I need to improve upon to get to that next level. I'm just trying to continue to grow as a player from what I accomplished last season."
