Rutherford pledges to Indy State

Chicago (Ill.) Lindblom senior wide receiver recruit CJ Rutherford (6-foot-0, 170 pounds) decided to give Indiana State his verbal commitment on Saturday after making a visit to the Terre Haute, Indiana based campus. Rutherford is the third known State of Illinois recruit to pledge to the Sycamores on Saturday along with Bishop McNamara safety Giavion Mason and Simeon defensive end Tierre Turner.

"I visited Indiana State today (Saturday) and I decided to commit," Rutherford said. "It just seems like a great place and it's also a great fit for me."

Rutherford discussed in more detail why he pledged to the ISU Sycamores on Saturday.

"I really love the coaching staff at Indiana State. Coach (Curt) Mallory brought in a staff that has a lot of experience and several of his coaches worked with him when he was at Michigan. The coaches made us feel comfortable and at home at Indiana State and I'm just excited to be a part of helping the football program win."

Rutherford considered a handful of school before making his decision on Saturday.

"I looked hard into schools like North Dakota State, Fordham and Western Illinois. I had offers from all three schools and in the end I just feel that Indiana State is the best possible fit/ I'm planning to major in sports management and Indiana State offers an impressive sports management program."

Rutherford is also excited to have given his verbal commitment.

"At first I wanted to wait and see how things go this fall but I'm glad to have made my decision now. I can just go out now and have a great senior season with my team and not worry about recruiting."

CJ Rutherford is verbally committed to Indiana State.
