TE Karner adds his first offer

Elmhurst (Ill.) IC College Prep junior tight end recruit Eric Karner (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) was able to add his first Division 1 scholarship offer on Monday when Western Michigan extended Karner his first offer. Karner checks in and breaks down adding his first offer from the WMU Broncos and more in this latest recruiting update.

"Western Michigan has been showing interest in me but I just didn't think they would offer me a scholarship this early," Karner said. "So the offer from Western Michigan did catch me by surprise. It's a great feeling to add my first offer from WMU."

So what does Karner know about the Western Michigan Broncos?

"I haven't been able to make a visit yet to see Western Michigan but I'm going to make it out for a visit later this spring. I know that the football program has been Bowl eligible nine out of the last ten years at WMU and that it's also a great school;. Western Michigan has a great business program and I'm interested in sports management as a major."

So which other schools have been in contact with Karner this winter?

"I've made two separate visits already to Northern Illinois and NIU is a good place. I've been invited to make Junior Day visit to schools like North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Illinois State. Iowa is suppose to call mr tomorrow (Tuesday) and they seem to be pretty interested. Ohio University plus Nebraska are also in contact and I'm definitely planning to make more college visits this spring for sure."

Karner will remain locked in and getting ready for this coming spring and summer on his 2023 football season.

"I decided to not play basketball this winter so I could focus on training for football along with adding more good weight and size. I've been able to add another 20 pounds this off season while I've also been able to keep my speed us as well. I feel really good these days and excited to keep working and getting bigger and stronger this off season."

Karner also reflected back on his 2022 season and what he's working to improve in his game this off season.

"I felt good about my blocking in 2022 and I really worked hard on improving that in the winter before last season. I'm definitely working to add more good size and strength along with just working on and improving my overall technique and just improve my feet and hands."
