TE O'Laughlin is still on board

Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick junior tight end Mike O'Laughlin (6-foot-5, 205 pounds) saw his recruiting stock soar starting last spring and schools up until last week made a strong move to land O'Laughlin including Big Ten power Ohio State. However. O'Laughlin is still on board with the West Virginia Mountaineers and is all set to ink his Letter of Intent on Wednesday.

"I plan to sign my Letter of Intent at school on Wednesday morning to West Virginia," O'Laughlin said. "We will have a signing ceremony later at school."

O'Laughlin had several colleges tempt him into backing off his pledge West Virginia up until this past week which included a late push from Ohio State.

"Ohio State offered me a scholarship last week. They wanted me to go out to make an official visit last weekend but I didn't go on the visit. Once I told them that I didn't plan to make the visit the interest from them died out. I'm 100 percent committed to West Virginia and I didn't want to make any other official visits."

O'Laughlin also had a great official visit to West Virginia last weekend.

"I had a blast last week at West Virginia on my official visit. I just love the coaches, the players and the other recruits at West Virginia. I just feel that it's the best overall fit for me. The overall environment at West Virginia fits me really well and I just feel comfortable and at home there. It's not like that for me at other schools and that's been the biggest overall difference for me in signing to West Virginia."

O'Laughlin, who is playing basketball this winter for Fenwick also offered some advice for younger kids about to go into the recruiting process.

"I would tell the younger guys to stay humble. I see too many kids get an offer and go crazy with recruiting especially on social media. You should be more focused on getting good advice from parents/guardians and coaches and getting out to see schools and see which schools are a good fit."

Mike O'Laughlin is verbally committed to West Virginia.
