West discusses his WMU pledge

Cary (IL) Grove senior offensive center recruit Addison West (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process over the weekend and gave Western Michigan his verbal commitment. West discusses his decision here.

"I've always liked it at Western Michigan," West said. "I looked at several other schools but once Western Michigan offered and after I visited them they really won me over so I decided to commit."

West, who was able to camp this summer in front of several Western Michigan coaches at the recently held North Central College satellite camp in Naperville pointed towards his relationship with the WMU coaches as another factor in his college choice.

"I really like the coaching staff at Western Michigan. They are all good coaches who also have strong personalities. I made a visit to Western Michigan back in the late winter and that visit went well and it allowed me to learn a lot more about the school and the football program. WMU just felt like home to me."

Was staying closer to home also a factor in West final decision?

"Staying closer to home was never a factor to me to be honest. Western Michigan is only a few hours away which is really nice for my family and that was more important to them. They can go and watch me play in college and not be too far away from home which is nice for them."

So who else did West consider before pledging to the Broncos?

"I looked at every school that offered me and I looked really hard ay Ohio University. Once Western Michigan offered me they pretty much won me over and then I started comparing other schools to WMU."

So what was the hardest part of the recruiting process for West?

"I would say just choosing one school is the hardest part of the process for me. I liked all of the schools who were recruiting me a lot. I called all the schools who offered me to thanks them and telling them no was hard. Those calls were hard to make."

West can now focus his attention towards his team and his upcoming senior season.

"We have a lot of kids back from last season. We don't start our team camp until June 18th and I'm just ready to get going."

Addison West is verbally committed to Western Michigan University.
